8 9 12  Healy AK

This was a drive day from Fairbanks to Healy, nearly halfway to Anchorage from Fairbanks.  Once we arrived here and got set up in the campground Richie, Paula, Dakota and Sage took the truck and went to the White Water Rafting excursion !!
They had a good time but wished the current had been a little stronger.  This time of year the water is not as fast or as high as it is in the early summer with all the snow melting.
Anyway, we will be off the internet for a few days now, as we are going to the Chugach mountains and staying at a national forest campground for a few days.  We will be at the Willawaw campground and will take some glacier cruises.  Will clue you in when we resume with the internet.
Take care and talk soon !!

8 8 12  Fairbanks Ak  #2

Still trying to do catch up !!  Today was very cloudy when we woke up and I might add a little bit chilly !!  Headed out first thing today to the museum of the north.  It was all about the animals here in Alaska and the native dress, tools, and way of live for the early settlers.   Nice and informative.

Richie, Trina, Sage, Dakota and Paula

 Rick with the big bear

 Trina with a dall sheep

 Sign says it all !!

P.M.
At1:30 we then went to the Riverboat Discovery tour down the Chena River.  We rode on a sternwheeler up on the open deck for the first part of the ride, by the second part of the ride Rick and I had enough of the cold wind so went below in the enclosed area.   We watched a float plane land on the river and then take off from the river.  Pretty neat !  Saw several beautiful riverfront homes.  We stopped at a native village and was given presentations on the manner and dress of the native indian cultures.  It was a very interesting afternoon in the little village.  There was also a presentation on Susan Butcher's iditarod dogs.

Sorry it has been awhile for the blog.  I will try to bring everyone up to date now.

8 6 12  Gold Dredge 8

Today we went to the Gold Dredge.  We took a train ride into the area where the mining was done.   We were presented with all the hardships and manner of mining during the early mining days.  We got to tour the dredge buildings and then panned for gold ourselves.  Each of us then were able to have our "gold flakes" weighed to see the value of our find.  Richies was 15.00,  Dakota had 20.00, Sage had 9.00 and the winner was.....you guessed it.....ME....30.00 !!!  Rick and Paula had such an insignificant amount that they did not even have it weighed.  We had a good time for sure, maybe not profitable, but fun.

Then in the afternoon we rode 60 miles from Fairbanks to Chena Hot Springs.  This was Sage's wanna do while in Alaska !  The museum was kept at a constant 20 degrees.  We all had to don some heavy jackets.  Well worth it !

8 7 12   Arctic Circle

Boy what a day this was.....Had to meet our bus at the front of the rv  park at 5:45 A.M. and didn't get back to the park until MIDNIGHT !!!  We made it across the arctic circle !!  Really a long day !  Met several other people on the bus from all over the country.  Every time we stopped for an attraction or break we had to rotate seats by 3 !  No one got stuck in a bad spot and you got to meet each other.  Rick and Sage went jogging at the Arctic circle and we were served " Tundra cake with permafrosting " !!  We all received a certificate for crossing the arctic circle....yea for us !!

8 4 2012 Palmer, AK

 Happy Birthday, Paula
On August 2nd Richie, Paula, Dakota and Sage arrived to spend some time here in Alaska.  Was very good to see them.  So now you know why I have been away for awhile.  So here is our update:

8 3 12  Anchorage, AK
Richie, Paula, Dakota and Sage went horseback riding in Anchorage at Horsetrekkin.

The day was young and we then decided to go to the Alaska Zoo.  Very nice park, set in a natural environment and a safe haven for injured animals.  We saw many beautiful animals and was even treated to a show by one of the bears that awoke and had to relieve himself !!!

8 4 2012

Happy Birthday Lisa !  Rain once again today.  Did laundry today.  Took off looking for a geocache !!  Spent quite a bit of time looking in the drizzling rain to no avail.  Then we took a ride to Palmer for a few photo ops.

We decided to go back to the original geocache are and take another look.  Shopped in the store then went outside and found the geocache.  On the way back to camp stopped and signed the first geocache that was located on 8 3 12.  One more stop at good ole
walmart for a cheese cake for Paula's birthday.  So who's birthday can we do next ?  Geez, cheese cake was good !!!  Time to move on tomorrow to Fairbanks......Till next time in the far north......

7 31 12 Talkeetna Ak

Day started out nice and crisp...47 degrees !  Warmed up really nice as the day went on....high of 68 !  Rick and I took a ride to Talkeetna.  It is a small town that is geared towards tourist but has a lot of history to it.   We stopped at the visitor center just to see what was a must see in the town.  Had a piece of birch syrup candy !  We went on to the town and people up and down each side of the road.  It definitely was a tourist town!  Had a few guys strumming on some guitars and singing alongside the road with their jar in front.  We toured the museum, which consisted of three buildings.  Lots of old artifacts and history of building the railroad.  One whole building was dedicated to ....what else...Mt. Mckinley !!  At 20,420 feet it is the tallest mountain in North America.  We went in Nagley's store and got us a big hunk of fudge !!
We stopped at Pizza Hut on the way back and picked up our dinner, also had to make a stop at Walmart.  Does anyone ever go anywhere without having to stop at Walmart on the way back ?  Had a real nice relaxing day !!!
 Rick got a kiss !!

7 29 12 Palmer AK

Started our Sunday out very leisurely.  I cooked !!!  Rick and I had bacon, eggs and toast this morning.  He finished watching a dvd and I just fooled around on the computer. Decided to go on a venture.  Along the way we stopped at a pull out that was very picturesque.

We went for a trip to the "Musk Ox Farm".  These animals are back from the ice age and are next to extinction.  They are being raised on a farm.  The tour was very interesting in how the personalities of these animals emerge.  We really enjoyed the tour. The tour guide seemed very knowledgeable about the musk ox.

We then stopped and got some bug and tar remover for the truck and 5th wheel.  Rick was so good today I treated him to Dairy Queen and his foot long chili cheese dog !!  Of course, I didn't suffer myself...I had the mushroom swiss burger !  Rick worked on getting the tar and bugs off the truck and of course I played with the computer.  We then went to Walmart and home to cook dinner.  While I was cooking the lasagna and garlic bread Rick went back to get something at Walmart and came back and said I had been a good girl today too so......he bought me a lemon meringue pie !!  You will never believe this.....We ate dinner at 8:30 and I was to full to have any pie afterwards.  Fell asleep watching tv and went to bed at 10:30 and NEVER ate any pie !  Unbelievable. huh ?
